Paarl JourneyPaarl Journey / Itineraries

Paarl played an important role in the birth of the wine industry, with the establishment of KWV, the first commercial wine cellar, dating back to 1918, and the introduction of cold fermentation to promote wine quality in 1937 by the then owner of Nederburg, Johann George Graue. More recently, Paarl made headlines with South African and World firsts with the first bottling of Viognier, a Bordeaux Blend and Nouvelle in South Africa. On the international front, Paarl is home to the first white Pinotage, Pinotage fortified desert wine and the first blend of Tempranillo, Tannat and Tinta Amarella.
