During the first week of August 2018, the picturesque Boland town, Paarl, is transformed by colourfully decorated trees in the main road, banners all over town, homes have flags or ribbons. Even the retailers showcase their creativity by specially decorated eats for the occasion.
This, together with thousands of supporters, old boys and girls from around the globe, who flock to Paarl, is a sign that it’s time for the annual Paarl Inter Schools.
It is the largest Inter Schools event in South Africa, drawing more or less fifty thousand proud supporters from Paarl Gimnasium, Paarl Boys’ High and Paarl Girls High, who flock into Paarl during the week.
During the week leading up to the final matches being played on Saturday 4 August 2018 at the Faure Street Stadium, there are many other sport matches and social events taking place, e.g. the golf, debate and chess Inter Schools, reunions and so called “geesvang” events, the “Big Brags”.
It will be the 103rd showdown between the Paarl schools. It also marks the 150th anniversary of Boys’ High School, the 160th of Paarl Gimnasium and Paarl Boys’ High will be the hosts.
The Paarl Inter Schools event has grown to such an extent that a committee with representatives from all three schools, manage the marketing of the event.
The detailed programme of the events of the week will be available by Friday 27 July. Find it on the Paarl Inter Schools official social media pages at:
