Situated on the cool slopes of Paarl Mountain, the history of Zandwijk started merely 37 years after Jan van Riebeeck’s arrival at the Cape of Good Hope.
Willem van Wijk took legal possession of the property in 1693. The farm Zandwijk was purchased by the Cape Gate Group of Companies in 1983. As a highly successful family steel business, Cape Gate’s intention was primarily to supply S.A. Kosher wines to the local community.
So the first Kosher wine was produced in 1988 at Zandwijk Wine Farm. When you visit the farm, you will find some of the first Kosher wines made in our Tasting Facility, in the display cabinet behind the tasting counter. We are open from Monday – Friday, from 8 am until 4 pm. Last wine tasting for the day start at 3 pm.
All wines and juices produced at Zandwijk are not only Kosher but also Kosher for Passover
