Jenny’s Home Cooking Experience offers you a unique home cooking experience and an opportunity to dine with a local family in the town of Paarl, considered the pearl of the Cape Winelands in South Africa. Jenny and her family will share with you their love for people, the community and good food in the comfort of their home, giving you a taste of traditional South African cuisine.
- Braai/Smoked Snoek (Fish), Patat, homemade bread and selection of jams)
- Jenny world famous butternut soup and selection of homemade breads
- Delicious stews, or selection of curries
- Potjiekos (stew made on the open fire)
- Chicken Pie
- Cape Malayan Bobotie
- Braai (meat or chicken grilled on an open fire)
- Milk tart/ Malva pudding or koeksisters or koesisters (yes there is a difference) served with coffee or tea
About your hosts:
Jenny hails from Oudtshoorn in the Southern Cape, growing up on a farm and managed to beat the Apartheid system through educating herself. She is a graduate from Bellville Teachers College, the University of South Africa, the University of Stellenbosch and the Capsicum Culinary Studio. Jenny is a qualified chef and a full time teacher for the past 30 years holding various positions. She is currently teaching English at a high school in Franschhoek and loves cooking for her family and travelling. Her husband, Harlan was born in Paarl and his parents were forcibly removed under the Apartheid Group Areas Act from Berg Street. He is a teacher by profession and a social entrepreneur by calling. Harlan is a former student activist in the black conscious movement and served as town councilor in the Drakenstein and Cape Winelands District Municipality (2000—2006). He is a founder member of the Koinonia Community Centre (1993) and community radio station in Paarl, Radio KC (1996). Harlan currently serves as chairman of the community Radio Station, Radio KC and is an Extraordinary lecturer at the School of Public Leadership at the University of Stellenbosch. The family is passionate about heritage and history and are parents to teenagers, Kristen – Kay and Kalan. Their home is in 5 Antoinette Street in Denneberg , a former “whites only” neighborhood on the Eastern side of Paarl.

We are open Wednesdays and Saturday evenings from 19h00pm – 22h00pm.
Price includes shuttle to and from guest house, 3 course meal, coffee and tea and a
selection of fine Paarl wines on request.
