Picnic and bask in the glow of the moon at the Language monument

You can be over the moon thanks to a perfect evening out by joining the iconic Afrikaans Language Monument’s friendly staff on a beautiful summer’s night on the picturesque Paarl Mountain.

Bookmark Friday, 2 February 2018, to share in another Full Moon Picnic, which is also in aid of a local literacy project.

The picnics are very popular with local residents and overseas visitors, who especially enjoy the sunsets and incredible night scenes. Visitors can join us between 17:00 and 22:00. A free guided tour that explains among other things the symbolism of the monument, which is an exceptional sculpture, is offered at 18:30.

Tickets are R30 per adult, R10 for SA students and R5 for children (free under six years). They are available from Computicket or at the gate, and no booking is required. Annual permits are available at the Language monument at R120 for individuals or R220 per family, which includes access to Full-moon Picnics.

Guests are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or pre-order one (at R300 for two people, or R400 with a basket included) at the Volksmond Coffee Shop on +27 (0)21 863 2800. Volksmond will be open for coffee and light refreshments. Please dress warmly and bring a torch.

Picnic Concert: Elvis Blue

17 February 2018/ 20:00–22:00

The energetic and generous singing sensation Elvis Blue will mesmerise visitors at the Afrikaans Language Monument on Saturday, 17 February 2018, between the green and granite on Paarl Mountain. This king of concerts has won numerous prizes for his best-selling albums, so there’s no chance that fans and new fans will suffer from the blues.

In addition, this forms part of the monument’s Concert Series – loved by residents, foreigners and tourists – in aid of the “Let’s Read!” literacy project for children, something that fits in well with Elvis’s own charity projects.

Tickets are available at Computicket and the Language Monument at R140 for adults, R130 for students and R70 for children under 13. Bring a blanket or pillow and warm clothes. Safe parking is available and entry is controlled. Unfortunately, no dogs or fires are allowed.
