There is a big pull towards old fashioned morals, time spent with family and re-connecting with your loved ones. Paarl offers plenty of things to do and see for you and your loved ones.
The Winelands is not just about wine tasting and drinking. Paarl is a kid-friendly, family-approved area where families can visit and have plenty to do.
Afrikaans Language Monument
You can see the Afrikaans Language Monument from far as you travel towards Paarl. Do visit this magnificent architectural structure.
The monument pays homage to the Afrikaans language, the youngest language in the world, and is the only monument erected to commemorate a living language. It represents the roots and growth of Afrikaans. The various columns and spheres symbolise the influence of other languages, from three different continents, on the development of Afrikaans.
The “Volksmond” restaurant next to the monument with their newly built pizza oven can be visited for lunch.
Dating back to 1692, Babylonstoren is a historic Cape Dutch farm that boasts one of the best preserved farmyards in the Cape. It is known for its magnificent garden that is laid out over 3,5 hectares (8 acres).
Open seven days a week, families can spend the day strolling through the gardens and experience “take it slow” farm living.
Enjoy lunch at the various restaurant options on the farm.
DV Chocolate Tasting
Did you know that chocolate comes from beans? Many children does not know this and at DV Chocolate they explain the whole manufacturing process from the cocoa bean to the chocolate bar.
You can view a roasting machine and take part in a tasting that explains the wonders of chocolate in detail. If you find something that especially tickle your taste buds you can purchase some of the sweet stuff in their well-stocked shop.

Le Bonheur Croc Farm
Families can spend the day at Le Bonheur Croc Farm and be entertained as well as educated.
Le Bonheur offers an educational guided tour of the crocodile pond – which is home to more than 1 000 reptiles where children can learn more about these scaly creatures. You can give your child a realistic, close-up experience to touch and hold a baby crocodile as well as watch the feedings (in summer).
Children older than the age of nine can participate in crocodile cage-dives. If they’re too nervous, they can always opt to play with the pot belly pigs or take a trip to the dam for catch-and-release fishing.
The fully licensed café offers a child friendly menu where one can relax and enjoy the view of the farm dam. Picnic baskets can also be ordered and enjoyed overlooking the dam.
Nederburg Wine Estate
The Nederburg staff have made it their mission to entertain kids with a special mystery box. There is also a kids tasting menu that pairs hot chocolate and strawberry milkshakes with marshmallows and cookies. The adults can enjoy a selection of wine pairings, while the kids enjoy their sweet pairings and keep busy with drawing and blowing bubbles
